5-Day Pouch Test?? Anyone?

Happy Wednesday friends!

So I have been reading a lot over the past few days about the 5-day pouch test. I'm sure some of you have heard of it. I honestly hadn't heard about it until a few days ago when I was watching a you-tuber talk about it who had the lap band. For those of you who don't know, I am a you tube addict! Because makeup, fashion and anything beauty related is my obsession, I go on there and watch these amazing makeup artists transform people with makeup. I love to watch videos of the new and upcoming trends for the season. I also have certain you tubers I follow who have the lap band and post videos of their journey. It's nice being able to see their face and hear them talk about the successes and struggles they go through. One of the ladies I was watching did the 5 day pouch test last week and she was raving about it. She said she lost a total of 9 pounds in 5 days and it helped her to jump start her weight loss back up after months of being at a stand still.

So for those of you who don't know, here is the 5 day pouch test plan:

Days One and Two: Liquid Protein
Low-carb protein shakes, broth, clear or cream soups, sugar-free gelatin and pudding

Day Three: Soft Protein
Canned fish (tuna or salmon), eggs, fresh soft fish (tilapia)

Day Four: Firm Protein
Ground meat (turkey, beef, chicken, lamb), shellfish, scallops, lobster, fresh salmon or halibut

Day Five: Solid Protein
White meat poultry, beef steak, pork, lamb, wild game

**********************

Most people (the ones I have read about) who have done the 5 day pouch test have lost anywhere from 5 pounds all the way up to 12 pounds during the 5 days! The test is not intended just for weight loss although it is said to trigger weight loss. From reading people's reactions, this seems to be true but we will see. It is intended to get people back to the basics and incorporate high protein foods back into your diet. It is to be done when you feel out of control with your eating habits and you need a little help being back to the basics. By the fifth day, most people say their band feels tighter than it was before. This is exciting!

I am thinking this is just what I need! I have done good on the weight loss front the past month or so but I feel like I could always use more protein in my diet. I don't like seafood unfortunately and I don't eat much red meat like steak but there are tons of chicken recipes I have found that will work perfect with this 5 day diet :)

Have any of you tried this before? Thoughts? Concerns? Likes? Dislikes? Anyone want to do this with me? The only day I might have a problem with is day three. What else can I eat besides what is listed? I don't do fish and I can't eat eggs all day...suggestions?

I am thinking about starting this 5 day test Monday, October 18th. I am on my last day of my period today so I am wanting to get all that out of my system before I start. And I need to get to the grocery store to stock up on chicken, soup, pudding and protein drinks!

I thought this was exciting!! Good luck to me!!

  1. I have always heard the term, but never knew exactly what it was. It does sound like a good way to get back into the right habits.

  3. This is basically your average carb detox. You can do it with a bigger variety of food but I think the whole point is that its simplicity makes it easier to stick to. I am actually doing something similar starting today. what a coinky-dink!!!! Hehe....I am not much of a meat eater to begin with so I am trying to stick to other protein sources like greek yogurt and low carb protein shakes. Just trying to jump start my weight loss again. I'm kinda doing my pre-op diet all over again except I eat greek yogurt for breakfast instead of a shake. Then a protein shake for lunch and then for dinner I want to have a meat and a green veggie. I lost the most weight on my pre-op diet. What's sad is that was before I had surgery!!! I gotta get back to the basics which is high protein low carb for me! Good luck. I think it will work for you!

  4. I've been wanting to do the 5 day test, but never seem to get to it...but after tomorrow's fill, I think I may go for it. I would suggest for day 3 finding a mushy protein, because that's basically what it is- mushy proteins.

  6. I don't know much about this but it sounds like a good plan. I'm interested in hearing how it goes for you. For day 3, you could probably do canned chicken My question is that with the protein can you use any seasonings and/or condiments? I'm going to need to look that up.

  13. Kristen, I promise I am not a stalker.....just dont have my own blog. I am banded as well (April 2009) and have lost 70 pounds. If you haven't ever been over to LapBandTalk, go and search 5 day pouch test. That is where I have first heard of it. I have not tried it but think I will, thanks to you! On day three you are worried about what to eat, do you like cottage cheese? If so try cottage cheese with spaghetti sauce on it and a small amount of parmesan cheese, nuke it to warm up. It tastes just like lasagna! This is what helped me get through my post-op diet. I found this recipe on LapBandTalk. Anywho, good luck!!
